PHOENIX (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to drug and money laundering charges in connection with a Phoenix-based steroid trafficking organization has been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison.

Federal authorities say Robert South was the head of the trafficking ring.

They say South used underground laboratories in Phoenix to convert raw steroid powder imported from China into pills and injectable steroid liquids.

They say federal drug agents seized two underground steroid laboratories, 114 pounds of raw steroid powder, 30 liters of liquid steroids, 8,500 steroid pills and nearly $250,000 in cash and assets.

The investigation was conducted by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Postal Service Inspectors.
