Continuing our Ask the Home Flooring Pros series of articles, we turn our attention to a common question we get asked quite a lot, which is…What is PVC flooring, and is there any difference between PVC flooring and vinyl flooring?

WHAT IS PVC FLOORING?

The short answer is no, there is no difference between the two, PVC flooring and Vinyl flooring are one and the same. PVC stands for Poly Vinyl Chloride and while that is the accurate definition of what vinyl flooring is made from it is hardly a description that rolls off the tongue!

PVC is also used for more than just flooring…most pipes are made from PVC, most of our cabling is covered in PVC and if you’ve ever been a punk or a goth you’ll no doubt be familiar with PVC clothing! If you really want to get to know PVC check out this Wikipedia page.

All this is to say that the flooring industry took the wise decision to market PVC flooring as vinyl flooring…so if you’ve been searching online for PVC flooring and wondering why you can’t find an online retailer that stocks it… now you know why!
