Do you need a disc golf bag?

Yes, you need a disc golf bag. Below, I’m going to give you 4 reasons why you need one. But real quick…

When I first started out, I knew I needed a bag but I didn’t really want to spend the money yet. So me and my buddy Hunter used what we had. I used an old NFL backsack and he used an old backpack. It wasn’t convenient, but it worked. And you can do this, too, if you don’t really know yet if you want to spend the dough on disc golf. If you’ve got an old bag laying around, use it. But do not go buy one of those non-disc golf bags (backsack/regular backpack). Because you can get a beginner bag pretty cheap. So if you’re going to buy a bag, buy a legitimate disc golf bag through our comprehensive list below.

4 reasons you need a disc golf bag

1. A great bag can help you think about your game differently

Instead of thinking about placing discs into a regular bag with no organization or getting irritated when you can’t find the right disc when you’re looking for it, an awesome bag helps you keep your discs in order and organized for when you need them.

2. A great bag can help you strategize your throws more efficiently

Most bags keep discs right at the front of the bag or where you can see all of the discs you are carrying. This can really help you strategize in between throws. Which disc do I need next or which disc will I need to get my shot in between all those trees up ahead? Your bag can help with this.

3. A great bag can help you carry more discs in a practical manner

I used a crappy gym bag at first. Then I had a backpack that was super aggravating and a backsack that was even worse. I hated all three. I used to only carry about 5-6 discs with me because more than that would clutter my bag and make it annoying to find the right disc. You don’t really need more discs than that, but a good bag can help you carry up to 20 or more in an organized manner. All of your discs are stacked up front or neatly kept in a pocket ready to be thrown. You don’t need 20 discs, but you may want to throw a few extra per round. Nothing wrong with that.

4. Most of them are cheap but are fantastic quality

The fact that most bags are relatively inexpensive makes them a worthwhile investment. You should get a bag that at the least is as good as the Dynamic Discs Trooper bag that I use. There are a ton of great bags at the $30-120 price range, so check out our list below.

The 3 types of bags

1. Small: these small bags are usually used for casual rounds or for beginners. These bags carry around 5-8 discs, are very inexpensive ($10-20 dollars), and aren’t usually the best quality.

2. Medium: these bags are the most common bags of pros and competitive tournament players. These bags hold between 8-14 discs, are still pretty small, and are somewhat inexpensive ($20-40 dollars).

3. Large/backpack: large bags are used by all players of all skill levels and hold a lot of discs. I personally love backpack bags, because even if you don’t carry a lot of discs, you can still put a lot of stuff in them (water/snacks/sunscreen/disc golf accessories/etc). These bags usually run from about $35 to $200 or more.

The 27 best disc golf bags

1. Dynamic Discs Trooper Bag

I absolutely love the Dynamic Discs Trooper. It holds around 16 to 18 discs and has been my personal bag for a while now. This bag has lasted for multiple years with very little wear and tear (I do try to take care of it). The great part of this bag is the quality and the price. For how well made the Trooper is, it only costs around $40 bucks. I love this bag and highly recommend it. You can get one here on Amazon.

2. Discraft Weekender Bag

The Weekender bag is a really great option for both new disc golfers and competitive players. This bag can hold a max of about 10 discs and has enough room for a water bottle, a snack, and your wallet/keys. If you want a good small bag for quick rounds, grab this one here off of Amazon.com.

3. Star Frame Bags Brick 2.0 Cooler Bag

After testing out the first Brick Bag, Star Frame Bags revamped and updated their Brick Bag and sent me the new and improved Brick 2.0 Cooler Bag. And let me tell you…the Brick 2.0 is absolutely amazing. It’s well-built, sturdy, has a large cooler compartment for drinks and cold stuff, a lot of storage, and a huge compartment up top for discs. It’s by far the best cooler bag and definitely competes with other awesome bags for the top spot on this list.

Check out this post for my full review of the Brick 2.0 Cooler Bag.

if you’d like to check out the Brick 2.0 Cooler Bag, you can find it here on Starframebags.com.

4. Athletico Ace Disc Golf Bag

The Athletico Ace is a very highly-rated bag amongst disc golfers. This medium-sized bag can hold 10 to 14 discs comfortably, along with, “all of your gear,” Athletico states. If you’re looking for a great bag, grab one here on Amazon.

5. Innova Champion Discs Standard Bag

The Innova Champion Standard Bag has been a staple bag for many disc golfers. This bag, which can hold 10 to 13 discs, is considered by Infinite Discs to be “an ultra durable bag that is just the right size for the average disc golfer.” The Standard Bag is a very affordable and convenient option for all skill levels, and if you want a great bag, you can grab one here on Amazon.com.

6. Innova Adventure Pack Backpack Disc Golf Bag

I like the Adventure Pack bag because it’s designed similarly to the Trooper bag above. Innova has built a really awesome bag in the Adventure Pack, which is capable of holding up to 25 discs! This bag also runs about the same price as the Trooper at about $40 bucks. This is a great option if you choose it. Grab one here on Amazon.com.

7. Kestrel Disc Golf Pouch Bag

The Kestrel pouch bag is a really cool little disc satchel that makes it a super convenient and easy to play your rounds. This bag holds about 6 to 10 discs and is a perfect quick round bag. You can get one here on Amazon.

8. NutSac Disc Golf Bag

The NutSac! Yes, I like it for more than just the humorous name that was bestowed upon this bag. This bag is very similar to the Kestrel pouch bag, but is twice as expensive. For the price, though, this bag will last you a long while. NutSac states that this bag is a really durable, high-quality disc holder that’s made out of the same material that Carhartt work clothing is made out of (that’s tough stuff)! You can pick up the Nutsac here on Amazon.

9. Infinite Discs Slinger Bag

The Infinite Discs Slinger is an inexpensive, comfortable, quick option for your disc golf game. Infinite describes the Slinger as “the perfect crossover between traditional shoulder bags and backpacks.” This cool little bag holds roughly 10-12 discs along with your water bottle, keys, wallet, and a snack. Grab yours here on Amazon.com.

10. Athletico Power Shot Disc Golf Backpack

The Athletico Power Shot is very similar in design to the Trooper bag above and is priced about the same as well. A lot of players have raved about this bag, as it can hold 20 to 22 discs and a lot of your miscellaneous gear. Check this bag out here on Amazon.

11. The Throwback Sack Bag

The Throwback Sack bag is awesome. It’s not just a disc golf bag that can hold 15 discs, but also a cooler that can carry up to 6 drinks. This bag is a good option for long tournaments or those long days out on the course with friends. Definitely a great bag under $50 dollars. Check the current price for the Throwback Sack here on Amazon.

12. Dynamic Discs Cadet Disc Golf Backpack

The Cadet bag is the cheapest backpack disc golf bag on this list. At the time of this writing, it’s only $20 bucks. Leave it to Dynamic Discs to make a decent backpack, similar in quality to their Trooper backpack, for half the price. Dynamic is awesome in that way. This bag holds around 17 discs, with even more storage room for other miscellaneous items. Check the current price here on Amazon.com.

13. Dynamic Discs Soldier Cooler Disc Golf Bag

The Soldier Cooler Bag is a really nice, but somewhat expensive disc golf bag made by Dynamic Discs. Even though the price is up a bit at around $60-70 dollars, it can hold 10 to 12 discs and up to 6 drinks in the cooler compartment. Check out the Cooler Bag here on Amazon.

14. Innova Starter Bag

The Innova Starter bag is pretty similar to the Infinite Starter bag, coming in at around $15 dollars. Considering Innova makes Infinite’s disc golf discs, I’m fairly sure they made this bag for them as well (they both look about the same – Innova’s bag has a mesh front and Infinite’s bag has a solid front with a logo on the side). This is a good beginner starter bag regardless. You can get one here on Amazon.com.

15. Rogue Iron Sling Bag

The Rogue Iron Sling Bag is a really great option for casual rounds where you don’t want to carry around a medium-sized or heavy backpack bag. This bag can hold about 7 to 9 discs and is a fantastic option for you for as little as $20 dollars. Check out the current price here on Amazon.

16. Disc Living Disc Golf Bag

The Disc Living Bag is another good sling bag option for your game. I like the Rogue Iron bag a bit better, but this bag is pretty good as well. This bag can hold up to 10 discs and is another good way to quickly get out and play. Grab the Disc Living Bag here on Amazon.

17. Prodigy Disc BP-3 V2 Disc Golf Backpack

The Prodigy BP-3 is the third cheapest option of the standard backpack disc golf bags on this list coming in at around $30-35 dollars. This bag is an upgraded version of the BP-2 bag as Prodigy upgraded the straps, padding, and quality of material. The BP-3 can hold around 17 discs and can be a great option for you. Get a BP-3 here on Amazon.com.

18. Innova Discover Pack Backpack Disc Golf Bag

The Discover backpack is a great option for under $25 dollars. You get a backpack capable of carrying 15 discs and a lot of other storage room in the bag for a drink, snacks, and other miscellaneous items. This bag is also the second cheapest backpack disc golf bag that you can get. Grab a Discover bag here on Amazon.

19. MVP Disc Sports MVP Beaker Competition Disc Golf Bag

The Beaker bag is a great option for competitive disc golfers. At a decent price of around $25 bucks, you really get a lot of bag for the price. MVP even offers a lifetime limited warranty on the Beaker bag. It can hold 12-15 discs and has a little bit of storage for your other gear. You can get a Beaker bag here on Amazon.

20. Latitude 64 Core Disc Golf Backpack

The Latitude 64 Core Backpack Bag is similar to the Dynamic Discs Trooper (#1), Innova Adventure (#6), Prodigy BP-3 (#17), and the Discraft Tournament Bag (#21). They’re all similar, with Latitide 64’s bag coming in at about $50 dollars. It can hold around 20 discs, is rain repellant, and is fairly lightweight. Grab this bag here on Amazon.com.

21. Lowik Disc Golf Bag

The Lowik disc golf bag is an excellent beginner bag that is cheap and holds 16-20 discs. Lowik states that “this is a stylish economical introductory disc golf bag for disc enthusiasts, suitable for beginner and hobbyist. With great volume and thoughtful detail, you should get such a disc golf backpack.”

Grab yours here on Amazon.

22. Fade Gear Lite Disc Golf Bag

The Fade Crunch bag is a reasonably-priced, well-built disc golf bag that weighs only 11 ounces! It can hold 9-11 discs and is a fairly decent option for your grab and go rounds. If you don’t want a backpack bag, this is a great option for your round under $50 dollars. Check the current price here on Amazon.

23. Dynamic Discs Sniper Bag

The Dynamic Discs Sniper is a really nice bag. Not quite on par with the Ranger pack at number 27 on this list, but still really nice. This bag is somewhat expensive at around $80 dollars, but is well worth it. This bag can hold around 18 discs and has a tremendous amount of storage for all your disc golf gear. Grab one here on Amazon.

24. Star Frame Retro Disc Golf Cooler Bag

The Retro is Star Frame’s attempt at a smaller, yet still awesome disc golf cooler bag…and they nailed it. This bag has a lot of the same features as the Brick 2.0, but it’s just a bit smaller (and of course a little cheaper).

Check out this post for my full review of the Retro bag.

Grab yourself a Retro Bag here on Starframebags.com.

25. Infinite Discs Easy Bag

The Infinite Discs Easy Bag is perfect for quick rounds or for those who just don’t want to carry a huge disc golf bag. It’s inexpensive, holds about 8-10 discs, and get the job done. Sometimes, that’s all you need. Grab yours here on Amazon.

26. FITactic Luxury Disc Golf Bag

The FITactic disc golf bag could make a really nice addition to your arsenal. On top of the 25+ disc capacity, there are multiple pockets to put just about every piece of gear imaginable. This is a very spacious, well-made bag that runs about $100 bucks. Check it out here on Amazon.

27. Dynamic Discs Ranger Pack

The Combat Ranger Backpack is an absolute beast. It is one of the highest quality bags on the market today. And it comes with a lifetime warranty from Dynamic Discs. This bag holds anywhere from 20 to 22 discs comfortably and has a lot of space for extra gear. It’s also much improved from the previous version, the Ranger bag. I will say, though, that the Combat Ranger will probably run you about 200 dollars, but you get a fantastic bag for the money spent. Check current prices here on Amazon.com.

Overall

A disc golf bag is an absolute necessity out on the course. And hopefully, I’ve been able to help you pick out the right bag for you. There are a lot of fantastic bags on this list, so grab the one that you like the best and get rollin’! Thanks for reading, disc golfers!
