The edible oil we use for cooking in our homes is generally hot pressed oil. 

Recently, cold pressed oil became popular for its lesser known importance and benefits. 

The difference between the hot pressed oil and cold pressed oil is less to do with the pressing techniques and more to do with the input material used to extract the oil. As the input fed to press the oil, tends to affect the overall properties of the oil. The way the oil is pressed also affects the properties and impacts the benefits of the oil.

Difference between cold pressed oil and hot pressed oil 

Cold pressed oil is when the inputs involved in the production are pressed at a low temperature. Or more specifically, the seeds are pressed raw without roasting. 

The complete method of extraction does not involve pressure and heat and that is what makes this oil healthier than any other form of edible oils available in the market.

Whereas hot pressed oil signifies that the seeds are roasted and pressed under extremely high temperatures and then refined, thus they are also known as the refined oil.

The process of extraction : 

Cold pressed oils are extracted from the oil seeds, nuts, or vegetables using low to no heat during the extraction process. The process of extracting oil through his process also does not require the use of any chemicals which might be harmful to the body. It also does not need any pre-preparation or preconditioning of seeds or input materials prior to extraction. The natural extraction process being low in acidic value does not require refining and can be readily used after filtration. 

Whereas, hot pressed oils are extracted by squeezing the seeds or the input involved in the presence of external heat, friction, and continuous pressure. Before extraction, the oilseeds are also roasted. On roasting the seeds happen to lose their fragrance, thus chemicals need to be added. Adding chemicals also increases the yield. Use of these chemicals increases the acidic value of the oils, therefore the extracted oil has to undergo refining, which also helps in getting rid of dust particles, gravels, etc. 

From the above processes, it could be clear that cold press oil extraction is different from hot press oil extraction majorly in terms of temperature difference.

Nutritional value : 

As the cold pressed oils don’t have to go through any extensive processing or contain hazardous additives, they can retain more nutrients and antioxidants as well as a rich flavour and scent.

Whereas hot pressed oils lose most of their nutritional value during high-temperature processing. The use of additives and chemicals tends to degrade the plant cells, denature protein, reduce oil viscosity and bioactive substances endure massive loss.

Compared to refined and other types of oils, cold-pressed oils are thought to be healthier. These have been discovered to be high in oleic acid, vitamin E, and antioxidants. Additionally, they don’t include any of the compounds that are added to oils during refining. Using cold-pressed oils enhances the flavour of the food because they are more aromatic and flavorful.
