Diesel is surprisingly hydroscopic ..it attracts moisture & crud .

I don't use my bench much in our the cooler weather , but at the front end I've been casting several dozen 48 hr wax candles . ( greenhouse anti frost heating ) . The odd splashes & dribbles get scraped off with a Stanley knife blade and then it was given a quick WD 40 spray which I then wiped in … Where it has been it's kept the rust at bay very effectively since mid September .
This part of the bench gets rain on if it is coming from the SE through to the SW when the roller doors are up & also any dampness when the roller is up .

As I have two x 200 gram tubs of a Vaseline type petroleum jelly ( helps soften hard candle wax so it burns better ) when I next cast some candles I'll make up a very small amount of hot 50/ 50 candle wax & jelly ( 2 egg cups of it ). Then wipe it over the whole bench with some cut up sweattop jumper using the fluffy side , using the blow lamp to thin it if needed . It will be interesting to see how well it works , for the top should get a very fine thin hard wax film over it .
