Drone Test Equipment

This MOC allows for testing various rotor and motor combinations, while generating minimum damage risk. It is based on a balance rigid enough to keep motor and rotor in place. The remote contol allows you to gain sufficient distance, in case things go out of control.

The testing involves the following steps:

  • Bring the test stand in balanced position
  • Add all weight to be compensated by the thrust (e.g. rotor or rotor+motor)
  • If the propeller lifts the balance above equilibrium, the thrust is sufficient for lift off of these elements

You are free to test various propellers, motors and power sources. The design of four propeller types is included in the instructions. However, I leave it up to your creativity for developing more effective solutions.

Building a helicopter it became clear that a rotor system built from Lego can generate significant thrust, as nicely shown by brick experiment . However, there is a relevant damage risk to Lego parts and humans involved, once the rotor takes off. This MOC allows for testing various rotor and motor combinations, while generating minimum damage risk.
