Hairstory is a brand that I discovered in 2020. They specialize in detergent-free hair cleansing creams to a diverse styling range including dry shampoo, hair balm, & texturizing spray. They came onto the scene in 2015 & this new Hair Oil is their first new product launch in almost 4 years!

The Hair Oil is a brand new launch from cult hair brand, Hairstory! This new multipurpose addition to their hair care line up has been carefully constructed based on Hairstory’s less-is-more approach to hair & scalp health. Hair Oil is made from a superlight blend of essential oils, is designed for all hair types & textures, & showcases a long-lasting fragrance. Think of this Hair Oil as a serum for your hair! It hydrates, smoothes out the hair cuticle, conceals damage, adds in shine, & tames frizz.
I don’t know about you but I’ve always enjoyed using a hair oil. However, this Hair Oil is different from other hair oils on the market because it’s light enough to still benefit fine hair, while also having the ability to be readily absorbed by hair that is in need of additional hydration help. My hair is naturally dry, so that’s something I can definitely appreciate! Not only that, but Hairstory has formulated this new oil with a single silicone, which is unique to the Hairstory brand. This helps the Hair Oil serve as both a treatment & styling product.
When you first purchase the Hair Oil, you will receive a lovely empty glass bottle complete with a dropper lid. The Hair Oil comes in a separate bottle. This separate bottle is what you will purchase any time you go to refill your Hair Oil. To decant the Hair Oil, simply snip the spout off of the Hair Oil tube with scissors & position it over the mouth of the glass bottle. The Hair Oil will easily disperse into the glass bottle when held upright. When the refill bottle appears to be empty, make sure to give it one last squeeze!

The Hairstory Hair Oil is fragranced with floral notes like ylang ylang & jasmine, married with woody tones like Cedarwood & Balsam. In my opinion, the scent is clean & definitely pronounced. Hairstory discloses ALL of the ingredients that make up their fragrance/parfum. This is super important to me. I don’t use any product that flat out lists “fragrance” on the ingredient list.
My first impression of the new Hair Oil was definitely a good one. I really appreciate the refillable component to the packaging. And I also really liked the overall look of the glass dropper bottle. It’s a clear glass & the design is clean & white.
When I first snipped the top off of the bottle that held the Hair Oil, I immediately could smell the ylang ylang & jasmine scent! The scent is definitely not subtle. If you have an issue with scented formulas, that’s definitely something to consider with this Hair Oil. Personally, I don’t mind the scent, especially because I know it’s not a synthetic fragrance.
The process of filling the glass bottle with the Hair Oil is very easy & not messy at all. Just place the empty glass bottle upside down over the open tube of oil. Connect the two together, flip them & the oil will disperse from the tube into the glass bottle. Continue to gently squeeze the oil tube until all of the oil has moved into the bottle!
After I poured the oil into the jar, I inserted the dropper applicator & dropped a few drops of oil into my palm to first feel the consistency. The formula of the Hair Oil is SO smooth, silky, & luxurious. I’ve found that when using this oil, a little goes a long way! Especially if I’m applying it to already dry or styled hair! If I’m wearing my natural curls or letting my hair air dry, I’ll use more than a few drops.
