According to the National Energy Administration (NEA), by the end of March, the total number of charging infrastructure units in China had reached 13.75 million, marking a 47.6% year-on-year increase. This total includes 3.9 million public charging stations and 9.85 million private ones.
In addition, 38,000 charging facilities have been installed in highway service areas, covering 98% of all service zones nationwide. Except for Tibet and Qinghai, all provinces have achieved the goal of providing charging stations in every county, with the county-level coverage rate reaching 97.31%. Furthermore, 13 provinces have achieved full charging coverage in rural areas, with township-level coverage at 76.91%.
Zhang Xing, Deputy Director of the NEA’s Comprehensive Department, explained that the NEA, in collaboration with relevant authorities, is drafting policies for the construction and upgrade of high-power charging infrastructure. The focus will be on high-traffic areas like highway service zones, where drivers can charge quickly and continue their journeys. The NEA plans to further strengthen planning and policy development, enhance the capacity of the charging network, and expand pilot projects to create a high-quality charging infrastructure system that better meets the needs of the public as they purchase and use new energy vehicles.
