The Zhangbei Flexible Direct Current (DC) Grid Demonstration Project has officially launched its "Virtual Laboratory," after successfully completing a four-terminal network test with its digital model in a simulation environment.
The "Virtual Laboratory" is a comprehensive simulation platform based on digital technologies. It integrates real-time computing, visualization, and interactive tools to create an accurate digital replica of the actual power system. This allows for precise simulations of the physical properties, operational logic, and complex scenarios of the power grid. The platform is used for equipment testing, validating new technology solutions, and conducting experiments under extreme conditions. Thanks to the Virtual Laboratory, engineers can simulate 12 types of complex operating scenarios and real-world data for the flexible DC grid. This enables in-depth analysis of grid behavior, fault simulations, and the testing of control strategies, which is crucial for improving the project's safety and operational reliability.
Huang Bin, Director of the DC Department at State Grid Jibei Power Equipment, noted that the Virtual Laboratory was launched as soon as the Zhangbei project went live, providing essential support for its safe and stable operation while ensuring a steady flow of green energy from the region.
Since its launch, the Zhangbei Flexible DC Project has employed digital technologies to continuously enhance its operational safety, maintaining an energy availability rate of over 98%. To date, the project has delivered approximately 43.1 billion kWh of green electricity to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, saving 15.07 million tons of standard coal and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 39.39 million tons.
