Dive into anything

I have a pair of low-top boots that absolutely eat shoelaces. I've had them for 3 years and probably gone through 5 or 6 sets of shoelaces. I guess the eyelets are very abrasive or something because they just wear through and break. I just keep buying the cheap replacement laces at the grocery store because they're convenient, but I'd love to find something better. Is there some kind of string, cord, rope, etc that I could cut into 50" lengths and use as laces? Maybe something that is reinforced? I know this question isn't directly related to making gear but I figure you guys might know about the kind of materials I'm looking for. Thanks!
